After a little summer hiatus the Teach Us Too ball is rolling again. Following our official launch and the publication of Jonathan’s book, Eye Can Write, over the summer, we all took a little time to recharge. With the new term comes renewed energy and great anticipation of what this year will have to offer and how we can really begin to make a difference for other children like Jonathan.
Attending the 1Voice residential weekend back in July was a really wonderful way to make some introductions. It was fantastic to meet other young people and their families who are also passionate about literacy education for children labelled as having Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. Moving forward we would love to collate as much information as possible about the educational experiences of other young people with PMLD. This information will be invaluable in shaping how we move forward as a charity and where our efforts and funds will be best placed. If you would be happy to share your experiences with us please do contact us via email or comment below.
As we look forward to the year ahead, we are especially excited to be working with the University of the West of England and their student teachers to deliver training on raising expectations and ambition for pupils labelled as having PMLD. This will hopefully aid us in creating a training program for soon to be teachers across the country. If you are a teacher (training or experienced) we would love to hear from you too. Please do get in touch and let us know what you would have found helpful during your SEND training, your input could really help us to understand how best to prepare tomorrows teachers and ensure that the attitude of assumed competence filters through all schools for all pupils.
